Deadline Day Of Shame For NFFC

Transfer deadline day began with positive expectations from Forest fans and even hope that for the first time in many years the club would actually strengthen the squad. There were even reassurances given throughout the day from Chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi himself and his associates, that “good news” was on the way. By the time the transfer window officially closed at 11pm last night, Forest fans were left reeling, with news that not only had we made no additions to the squad, but we had farcically pulled out of a nailed on deal to bring Peterborough Utd`s George Boyd to the City Ground.

Early morning reports stated that both Posh and Forest had agreed a fee for George Boyd to make a permanent move to the City Ground. By 10am, it was being reported that the player had also agreed personal terms and was undergoing a medical. Eleven hours later and with only the appropriate paper work to be signed, from totally out of the blue, the NFFC medical staff requested an eye test for Boyd. The player failed the test and as a result, NFFC pulled out of the deal.

We have as yet received no official confirmation of these events from anyone connected with NFFC, but according to Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony. ‘The whole thing stinks.” MacAnthony was fuming and publicly slated the Reds`. He told Sky Sports News. ‘I got a phone call off him in bits. He said that he passed the medical then they made him do an eye test. He’s played 300 games and scored from the halfway line the other month but Forest say he has an eyesight problem. The whole thing stinks. Alex McLeish wanted to sign him. I’m devastated for George. It’s the most ridiculous thing that’s happened to me. He will be back at Peterborough.” Just to add insult to injury, MacAnthony went on to claim that the Forest Chairman then asked if Boyd was available to loan. That beggars belief if true, but unsurprisingly, the Posh Chairman declned the request.

Inbetween the farce that was beginning to unfold over the failed eye test, Fawaz Al-Hasawi informed fans via his twitter page that Radoslaw Majewski had agreed a new three and a half year deal. That good news was soon forgotten, as the comedy of errors being played out in the Forest medical room began to come clear. As mentioned above, we have yet to hear the NFFC version of events and only have the Posh claims to go on, but until we do hear something official from NFFC, this paints us in a very bad and embarrassing light. It`s a disgraceful and shameful way to go about doing business and Forest fans have been quick to condemn the club. It would be good to hear an official statement from the club on these matters. It would also be the decent and honourable thing to do, not only to supporters of NFFC, but Peterborough United and more importantly, George Boyd himself. We await your response Mr. Al-Hasawi.
