The loan signing of Spurs defender Chris Gunter is confirmed today and he has told the official site, that former Red Michael Dawson helped him decide on a move to the City Ground.

Dawson left the Reds’, back in 2005 along with midfielder Andy Reid in a combined fee thought to be around £8M (where did that go? KERCHING!). Dawson has been a regular fixture in the Spurs backline since then, although Reid has had several clubs since he left Trentside, for White Hart Lane. Both players probably regret leaving us for the Prem and sunnier climbs, but some people just aren’t cut out for three years in League 1 and lower league football.

Gunter had apparently got several offers on the table, but after chatting to Dawson his mind was made up. ‘I spoke to Michael and he only had good things to say about the club. Michael just backed up my decision and I’m delighted to be here.’ Makes you wonder how much of a friend Daws is, with advice like that.

Well, we’re glad to have you Chris and there’s no denying you’ll be needed. One thing is certain and that’s the fact he’ll get games. With a growing injury list, he isn’t exactly going to be fighting for a place. That’s what he’s been sent here for, as he’s finding it hard to break into the first team at the Lane. Hopefully this will be a move that keeps all parties happy. We get a decent defender, he gets the experience of regular first team football and Forest get to stay in the Championship. Job’s a good ‘un. If only it were that simple.
