Forest v Newcastle was always going to be one of the most eagerly awaited games of the season and a sellout City Ground, with over 4,000 screaming Geordies will be testament to that.

With Forest in a fine run of form, United sitting atop of the Championship table, the return of Calderwood and former striker Marlon Harewood, and the fact it’s on the telly box, ensures this game has all the ingredients for a feisty and classic encounter.

Billy Davies has called on Forest fans to play their part in helping the team continue the form that has seen them win their last 3 games. Speaking to the NEP, he said. ‘We have got to remove all negativity from this club. Our fans have to realise that you cannot control 90 minutes of football, we will be under pressure from time-to-time. When the fans of Nottingham Forest support their team through thick and thin, there are no fans better. What we need is for them to be vocal, to be supportive and to be right behind us from first minute to the last. We want them to show the nation and show the world what they are all about.’

There’s no doubting that the Geordies will be in fine voice and a following of 4,300 will see that they are. Whilst Forest fans have had good reason to criticise in recent years, the corner is being turned and progress is being made. Away from home, the Reds’ support is second to none, but the City Ground atmosphere has been more akin to a morgue at times in the recent past. Now is the time for us to stand up and be counted and to show the lads that we are right behind them and the best manager we’ve had in years. Bring it on!
