Davies To Be Linked With Every Job Going

They say there’s no smoke without fire, but in the case of today’s revelations in The Sun, there possibly is.

The day after claiming that Lewis McGugan is on his way to Coventry for a million quid, they claim that manager Billy Davies is wanted by not one, but two of our Championship rivals. They also say that Forest have denied both QPR and Sheffield Wednesday permission to talk to Davies.

There’s no doubting that Davies’ stock is rising by the week and it should come as no surprise to fans, to hear that he’s a wanted man. In some ways, it’s a measure of his and the clubs’ success over the past twelve months, especially for Davies, who has done it all before in the Championship, with both Preston and Derby.

Whilst there may be a grain of truth concerning the rumours about McGugan, there can be very little truth in linking Davies with a move to either of these clubs. At best, they may have made a tentative enquiry, but would have been swiftly shown the finger by NFFC. The NEP, goes as far as saying a spokesman for NFFC denies any such approach for Davies has even been made.

Any Forest fan concerned with the future of Billy Davies, should ask themselves who looks to be the more attractive proposition at present. Forest are very much a club on the up. He’s been given cash to spend, with the promise of more to come and the future looks very bright indeed for both him and the club. Sheffield Wednesday are very much a club in decline, with very little money to strengthen a struggling side and are currently occupying one of the relegation spots. QPR on the other hand are a club struggling to live up to the hype and reputation of being the richest outside the Prem. They lack stability and have gone through 4 managers in just over twelve months. It could all come good for the boys at W12, but the money men who run the club, want too much say in team affairs. That will not sit well with Davies, who is very much a man who likes to call the shots.

So long as Forest continue to do well, we’re going to have to get used with the boss being linked with every vacant managerial post in the land. This wont be the last time a club comes knocking at the door of NFFC this season, for the manager or a player, so it is something we’re going to have to get used to, especially if we continue to progress at the rapid rate we are. After ten years of having lousy managers and even worse players, it does take a bit of getting used to, that somebody should actually want something connected with us. Times are certainly a changin’.
