Davies Is All Smiles After Win (Honest)

Billy Davies was almost a changed man following the 1-0 win over Coventry City on Saturday and veered away from the bad cop image he’s portrayed in recent weeks.

Davies was all teeth and smiles when explaining to the official site that he couldn’t wait to get hold of Lewis McGugan in pre season. Lewis could have been forgiven for thinking he was in for another rollocking from the gaffer, but Billy was being kind for once and in a soft voice said. ‘He’s got such wonderful talent. Lewis and many others performed tremendously well today.’

Still smiling, Davies said. ‘There were one or two choice words said at half-time (I bet there were)- we had to up the tempo a little bit but we showed a great appetite to win the game in the second half.

Even supporters got a pat on the back from the enigmatic and beaming Scot, when he said. ‘Again, the supporters deserve great credit because the spirit and attitude they are showing, and the atmosphere they are creating, is a big factor.’

These are unusually happy days at the City Ground and long may it continue. It does seem as though this previously useless bunch of misfits are now listening to what the manager has to say. If Ipswich can beat Norwich today, these happy days might even last a bit longer.
