It’s been common knowledge for some time, that Reds’ boss Billy Davies is unhappy with the way the club conducts business in the transfer market and that he disagrees with the way the tranfer acquisition panel is run. Those disagreements appear to be coming to a head this week, with news that he’s set for talks that will decide his City Ground future.

Reports in todays’ Guardian, confirm internet rumours that he’s set for make or break talks with Chairman Nigel Doughty on Friday.

Davies is annoyed at missing out on the chance to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window and cites that as the main reason the club failed to achieve automatic promotion. Davies feels he has an unworkable relationship with NFFC football consultant David Pleat and sees him as the main obstacle, when it comes to securing his targets.

Whilst Davies has good reason to be unhappy with the clubs’ transfer policy, he’s done himself no favours by openly touting himself on the soon to be situations vacant front. Last weekend he did an interview with Scottish TV, where he refused to rule out moving to any club that made an official offer for his services. That has angered Chairman Nigel Doughty and is the reason the pair are now set for a head to head.

Back in January we reported that the club was set to revamp the transfer panel in an effort to placate Davies and give him more control in the way transfers are carried out. Hopefully the two parties can find some common ground and find a way forward that’s best for the club. The best thing for NFFC, is for the two sides to meet half way and for Davies to continue in his role as manager. For that to happen, both sides have to give a little. The club need to give Davies more of a say in transfer dealings and in turn he has to try and keep his mouth shut. It’s now time for the bickering to stop and for Chairman Nigel Doughty to do everything in his power to ensure that Davies is still manager of this club next season. If the Chairman fails to do that, it will be the biggest mistake in his 11 reign at the club.
