Could This Man Work In Football Management Again?

According to the bookies, former Forest manager and public enemy number one on the terraces of the City Ground, David Platt is set to make a return to football management.

The NEP are quoting online betting agents betfair, as making Platt favourite to take the hotseat at Meadow Lane, after the sacking of former Forest caretaker boss Ian McParland today.

But, according to BBC Radio Nottingham’s NCFC correspondent Colin Slater, Platt will not be the man to succeed McParland. There seems to be conflicting opinions on whether the Pies would be so stupid, as to appoint Platt, but the bookies seem convinced he will, whilst those in the know say he wont. Either way, it all makes for very entertaining viewing from a Forest perspective.

The goings on at Meadow Lane of late, have been the stuff of soap opera and at times has even bordered on comedy farce. We’ve had the rumour and confirmation of Sven’s appointment, Sol in, Sol out. Then there’s been the FL investigation into ownership and questons about ‘fit and proper persons tests.’ They haven’t handled the media very well and their new found celeb status in the tabloids, seems to have gone to some of their fans heads. It will all surely come crumbling down though, if they dare to appoint Platt.

He might have guided the Reds’ to 2 seemingly respectable midtable finishes in the Championship, during his time on the goodside of the Trent, but he’s widely blamed for being the man who started our decline and subsequent fall from grace. He’s blamed for wreaking havoc on the Forest finances, which wasn’t helped by blowing nigh on £12m on players and a big chunk of it on 3 crap Italians. He’s also blamed by Forest fans, for global warming, third world debt and the current world wide recession.

Platt hasn’t worked in football since parting company with the FA and the England U21’s back in 2004. He spends his time nowadays, doing the odd bit of punditry for Sky (when they can’t get anyone else) and writing a few bits for 442 magazine. I’m sure he’s available and is sitting by the phone, waiting for the call from his old mate Sven. I’m not sure that call will come though and if I was a Notts fan, I’d hope it never does.
