The Nottingham Forest official site has issued a statement saying that manager Steve Cotterill has been sacked with immediate effect.

The club say Cotterill met with the new owners yesterday and was relieved of his duties there and then.

Cotterill was only in the job for 9 months, having replaced Steve McClaren back in October.

It’s not unfair to say he wasn’t the most popular Forest boss ever, but he did have an almost impossible task following the death of former owner Nigel Doughty and the withdrawal of funding. He did manage to keep us in the Championship last season, having flirted with relegation for most of his time in charge.

Cotterill will be in line for a handsome payoff from the club, with nearly 3 years of his contract still to run. Thanks for retaining our Championship status Mr. Cotterill and good luck for the future.
