Manchester City’s on loan left back Greg Cunningham will play his final game for the Reds’ on New Year’s Day at the City Ground against Cardiff, unless the clubs can come to an agreement on the players future.

Cunningham has played 9 games for us so far since joining us on a short term loan deal back in October. In that time, he’s more than filled the void at left back and has been one of the few shining lights in an otherwise dull campaign to date.

Forest have a host of injury problems in defence at the moment, with Joel Lynch and Wes Morgan both receiving treatment. The loss of Cunningham, would only add further problems for manager Steve Cotterill. The club really do need to sort something out and tie the 20 year old Republic of Ireland international to the club for the remainder of the season.

Cotterill told the Evening Post. ‘We are trying to sort something out. We are trying to do something, to extend his loan. Sometimes you just have to do things. This is perhaps a must for us. Given our defensive options, it probably is. We would hope to find out if it is possible before the Cardiff game, which would be his last appearance otherwise.’
