They say you never truly get over your first love.

Well, this may not necessarily be their first love, but Nottingham Forest fans aren’t getting over their love for former midfielder Jack Colback.

The 29-year-old had two loan spells at the City Ground – having initially signed in January of 2018, he committed to another loan spell the following summer. Whilst he didn’t make a huge impact on the pitch, with only five goals and two assists during his time there, he obviously did something to endear himself to the fans.

With the recent change in management at Newcastle, we’re not 100% sure what Steve Bruce’s plans are for the midfielder. However, as pointed out during the Sky Sports commentary yesterday, it was Bruce that gave Colback his Premier League debut back in 2010 whilst at Sunderland, so he obviously sees something in him that he likes.

And after Nottingham Forest fans spotted Colback starting for Newcastle in their 4-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Asia Trophy, they took to Twitter to express their dismay at seeing someone they adored so much playing for his parent club again.

Even more importantly though, they did it to defend their man against the abuse he was receiving from the United fan base. It’s almost like seeing your ex-partner in the street with someone else…
