Colin Signs His Own Death Warrant

Any football manager who picks a fight with the supporters of their club, invariably ends up picking up their P45. Forest boss Colin Calderwood has done just that following criticism of the fans after the weekend game with Millwall.

Admittedly the atmosphere at the City Ground in recent weeks has been more akin to sitting in a morgue, rather than that of a football stadium. But the fans do need something to cheer about Mr. Calderwood. It hasn’t gone unnoticed amongst supporters that the football being served up at the present time is pretty awful to put it mildly.

The manager may rightly argue that we sit in third place with a real chance of promotion and for that reason we should get right behind the team and give them our full support. But those of us that see them week in week out, know only too well that our league position is precarious to say the least. We don’t play like a team going up or sitting in third spot. We don’t play with confidence, we don’t play with any style, we don’t play entertaining football full stop.

His constant tinkering and downright refusal to stick with a 4-4-2 formation, one that every fan agrees would suit the players best has got most of us bewildered. The league table doesn’t lie, but on current form we aren’t going to be there at the end of the season. Supporters who care about this club are worried that exactly the same signs as last year are showing themselves again and are genuinely concerned that the manager has not learned from his previous mistakes.

We’ve had a lot to put up with these past few years and being slated in the press by a manager who is showing signs of letting us down again will earn him no favours. He may well indeed have signed his own death warrant with his badly chosen words and any fans unsure of where they stand on all things Calderwood, may now have a clearer idea of what they think of him.

A win and a convincing performance against Lucky Leeds tomorrow evening may win him a few fans, but he’s unfortunately lost this one and it’s my opinion that he should now go. At least there is still time to salvage something from what is beginning to look like another failed season. The table may look good at the moment, but appearances are deceptive. I have always supported this club Mr. Calderwood and I shall be supporting it along time after you have gone.
