Colin Said It Would Be Exciting

With only two games remaining and promotion within touching distance, the next two games are set to be real heart stoppers. It could however all turn to rat shit and be over this weekend. But I have a feeling this is going to go the distance and be decided on the final day. Brizzle will probably do it, but as Jimmy Greaves once said in one of his drunken stupors, ‘It’s a funny old game.’

When we were seven points clear and thinking this season was going to be a walk in the park, none of us envisaged the scenario we are now faced with. We will no doubt spend the summer arguing that we threw it away over the Easter period in the games with Millwall and Rotherham, but in truth it has been performances over the whole season that will have ultimately decided our fate.

Colin has remained forever optimistic about our automatic chances and rightly so. He will not throw in the towel and neither should we. Bristol City are notorious bottlers and have seemingly spent the last eight years mucking it up come the end of the season. None of us really believes they are incompetent enough to do it again, but they might.

As it stands, the final game of the season at home to Crewe has the potential to be the biggest game at the City Ground in all our supporting lives. I would argue it could be more important than any of the great European occasions, bigger than the playoff semi against the Blunts or any cup match that has graced the hallowed turf. All down to Millwall getting at least a point and us doing the business at Orient.

Of course it could all go belly up and be of little consequence after next weekend, but Colin told us it was going to be exciting and it is. If the prospect of a last day decider doesn’t get your juices flowing, then I’d check your pulse as you may be dead. It is a mouth watering prospect and no matter how hard I try not to think about it, I can’t stop. The thought of doing a smash and grab over City on the last day fills me with such anticipation and excitement. It would be the great escape to end all great escapes, more akin to a bank robbery in reality, but you take what you can in League 1.

So, we’re all set for the final push. The finish line is in sight, but it’s any one’s guess as to how things will end up. This is what it’s all about though, being in with a shout and having half a chance at success. Forget all about dodgy formations, team selections and substitutions. This is what being a supporter is all about. Twitchy bum time it certainly is, but it’s also just a little bit exciting. Isn’t it?
