Chris Cohen and Junior Agogo are hoping to play for the reserves this afternoon at the City Ground against Birmingham City.

The pair stand little chance of making the starting XI for the season opener against Bournemouth on Saturday, if they can’t play at least some part in the reserve game today. Agogo has been in most of the pre season squads, but has failed to make an appearance in any.

Cohen made a brief appearance in the game with Sheffield United at the weekend, his first for the club since signing in June from Yeovil and his first game since recovering from groin surgery.

Agogo has struggled to recover from a pelvic injury sustained towards the end of last season and has been treated with kid gloves by the club during the summer. Calderwood has been careful not to take any risks with the striker, which is just as well as he is the only other fit (I hope) out and out striker we have.

Both of these players will have a key role to play this season, so a speedy recovery would be welcome by the fans. Only three days to go before the big kick off. We can’t wait.
