Nottingham Forest midfielder Sammy Clingan could miss the rest of the season after breaking his ankle.

Clingan suffered the injury during the early stages of Forest’s 5-1 thrashing of Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

He will spend the next six weeks in plaster and Colin Calderwood fears the Northern Ireland will play no further part in the club’s push for promotion.

‘Sammy has broken his ankle and will be in plaster for six weeks before he starts his rehab,’ Calderwood told the club’s official website.

‘I don’t know whether it’s his season over – hopefully we’ll be able to roll him out to help celebrate promotion.

‘But it’s a terrible blow for him and overshadows what has been a good day for us.’

Clingan will also miss Northern Ireland’s Euro 2008 qualifying double-header against Liechtenstein and Sweden at the end of March.
