Clark – Really Excited By Cotterill Appointment

Frank Clak was only officially appointed Chairman of Nottingham Forest on Thursday and within 24 hours of assuming the role, his first job was to announce that Steve Cotterill was to be the new manager at the club.

Speaking to the official site, Mr. Clark said. ‘I’m really excited about the appointment. Steve was always at the top of the list and he fits the criteria that we set out when I first started looking at this with the board last week. He’s enthusiastic, he’s hungry, he’s got a terrific CV and he’s experienced at this level. He was everything we were looking for. Experience of the Championship wasn’t the most important thing – the most important thing was his CV.’

It’s not unfair to say that the appointment of Cotterill hasn’t been universally accepted by fans, or even viewed as a good one, but what the vast majority of fans do agree on, is that the new manager has to be supported. That support should not come as too difficult a task for the long suffering fans, who have had to suffer 12 years of continued failure under Mr. Clark’s predecessor Nigel Doughty.

Mr. Doughty still remains in financial control of the club and is still officially the owner. Mr. Cotterill will have been told in no uncertain terms, that financial support to strengthen the squad will be in short supply and any additions to the squad will have to come from some astute and clever bargaining in the transfer market and from recruiting from within the reserve players at the club. It’s going to be a tough job for the new man to take on and his work will begin in earnest on Monday. The first game in charge for Cotterill, will be at the City Ground on Tuesday night, when the Reds’ take on Middlesbrough. Cotterill will have the support of his Chairman and the fans from the start, but only time will tell whether he has the support of the clubs’ owner or not, but history suggests that Mr. Doughty will come up short on that front. Good luck Mr. Cotterill…..you’re going to need it.
