The City Ground was for the second year running the venue for the women’s FA Cup Final and was attended by a record 24,582 spectators. Arsenal ladies beat Leeds ladies 4-1 in the game.

Depending on your view of women’s football the game was either marred or improved by the sight of a female streaker during the game, which was screened live on TV.

Unfortunately for 19 year old Natasha Hawkins, she now faces a 3 year ban for her sporting antics. It seems her little bit of fun was seen as a major incident and she must bare (no pun intended) the consequences for invading the pitch.

The poor lass has ended up in court and what seemed a harmless bit of fun at the time, has now turned into the crime of the century. Daniel Pietryka (prosecuting) told the court. ‘A large amount of young females would have been watching the match at the time and it was being screened live on national television, and no doubt to other countries. Police were called to the ground after the incident because it was originally a ‘police-free’ game.’

Miss Hawkins (God bless her, love her and squeeze her) said that her friends had offered to give her £10 for every streak she did. Some might offer her £20 not to, but that ‘s not the point. This is once again a case of the authorities making a mountain out of a mole hill. She didn’t harm anyone, there was no political motive and she wasn’t protesting about anything. Does she really deserve a 3 year ban for all this?

She told the Nottingham Evening Post. ‘I have never been in trouble before and wouldn’t do anything like it again. But it seems to be silly to be banned, the judge seems to be taking it more seriously. I didn’t realise how big it would be and that it would go on television. But I have said if I receive any money I will give to a breast cancer charity.’ Good for her. I hope she gets off with it, but it sounds as though she won’t. Bail was granted and the case adjourned until August 7. What’s the world coming to?
