The Nottingham Post are suggesting that Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan could be a target for us before the loan window closes on August 31st.

However, the Sheffield Star reports that Sheffield United are also closely monitoring the 26-year-old, and will “hold further talks” with the Villans this week to get a deal over the line.

One stumbling block is that Villa may want to keep him after reportedly being snubbed by Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham, but it seems United have been given enough encouragement to make a move.

Hogan is said to be one of five strikers we are considering, along with Jermain Defoe, Nelson Oliveira, Rudy Gestede and the aforementioned Abraham.

Since moving to Villa Park for £12m in January 2017, the Irish international has struggled for goals with just 10 in 54 games. He has so far yet to make an appearance for Steve Bruce’s side this campaign, with Jonathan Kodjia having started as the club’s first choice striker.
