Chambers Set For Fight

Luke Chambers today staked his claim for a first-team place at Nottingham Forest.


The 21-year-old Northampton Town defender signed a two-and-a-half year deal after becoming one of two signings by Colin Calderwood. David Prutton returns from Southampton until the end of the season.

Chambers, who, along with Prutton will not be available for tonight’s trip to Carlisle, said: ‘I have not come here to rest on my laurels. I do not need any time to settle in.’

Chambers, who was made skipper of the Northampton side by Calderwood last season, despite his age, added: ‘Forest seem to think I can do a job for them now. I want to play a part, I want to be in the team and do my bit – that is why I came here. The lure of potentially playing Championship football was something else I thought about.

‘With all respect to Northampton, Forest are a big club and, when you look at the league table, they have a good chance of promotion.

‘If I can help them into the Championship, that would be fantastic. For them and me.’

Chambers credits Calderwood as being a massive influence in his development. And, after finally joining his old boss at the City Ground in a deal believed to be worth £200,000, he hopes Calderwood can help continue his progression as a player.

Chambers’ move comes after months of speculation linking him with Forest.
