Despite other clubs circling for Luke Chambers the Forest defender, as he told The Evening Post, has no intention of leaving the club.

The 25-year-old is moving into the final year of his contract but talks over a new deal have opened: ‘we have spoken to the club about it.

‘Nothing has come of that yet but we have had a few conversations about the situation. I am happy to keep playing my football and see what happens.’

Chambers knows that if he continues to perform on the pitch then the movements off it will take care of themselves.

Links to other clubs are part and parcel of a footballers life but this does not concern him and he is not looking for a move anyway: ‘I don’t want to leave. I love being in Nottingham and I love playing for Nottingham Forest.

‘I have been linked with other clubs but that is not for me to think about. Unless something concrete happens, I am not going to concern myself with it.

‘I am not looking to move, I am happy playing week in, week out for Forest.’

Having proven himself, in his opinion, ‘one of the best central defenders in the Championship’ Chambers is looking to have another successful season under new manager Steve McClaren and hopes that he can help take Forest to promotion to so he can ‘prove himself at the next level.’

The fact that Chambers wants to stay is a positive thing, when a player moves into the final year of their contract it is always a worry that they will run this down before securing a lucrative move elsewhere – as others have in the past…

A new long-term deal should be signed soon though, by the sounds of it.
