Nottingham Forest have had a £1M bid for Cardiff City winger Peter Whittingham turned down according to reports in Wales.

Whittingham would be seen as the ideal replacement for the defected Kris Commons and in some eyes a better player all round. At 23 years of age, the former Aston Villa trainee has been quickly making a name for himself. He was signed from Villa by the Bluebirds in January 2007 for £250,000.

He’s an England U21 international and has scored 9 goals in 51 appearances for Cardiff. It’s thought that with the Welsh sides financial worries a bid of £1.5M would be enough to make manager Dave Jones part company with him.
