Ben Watson says he fears the excellent performances of his midfield partner Jack Colback could attract other clubs in the summer.

We signed the 28 year old on loan from Newcastle until the end of the season when he`ll return to Tyneside. The player has no future at St James` Park and will likely leave on a permanent transfer, and our captain hopes the club do all they can to sign him. He told the Nottingham Post:

‘I think everyone at the club would like to see him extend his stay beyond the end of the season. But if he keeps performing the way he is, I don`t think he will be short of offers in the summer. It will be Jack`s decision come the end of the season. But myself and everyone else would love to see him at the club for longer.’

The midfield partnership between the pair has contributed hugely to us improving at the back, and I have no doubt that the manager we will want to keep them together if it is possible.

As Watson says though, there will be competition for our current no.18, and we will have to fight tooth and nail to get him. Hopefully his positive experience with us will be enough to persuade to make a permanent move to the City Ground.

I`m sure his team mates, and the manager, will be in his ear constantly encouraging him to join us at the end of the season, especially if he continues performing the way he is.
