Calderwood Wants Win

Colin Calderwood today insisted Nottingham Forest will not go to Yeovil with a defensive mindset and pledged: ‘We want a win.’

The Reds face Russell Slade’s side at Huish Park in the first of two crucial games that will decide who goes to Wembley to fight for a place in the Championship.

But manager Calderwood says Forest will not adopt a defensive approach in an attempt to keep things tight ahead of the second leg at the City Ground.



‘I would not be happy with the draw,’ he said.

‘Perhaps I would if we were second best in the game and we were thankful for not getting beaten.

‘I want to win. I want an advantage when they come here.

‘I want to be ahead before next Friday and the bigger the lead the better. If we can get a big advantage, it would put us in the driving seat.’

Calderwood believes that holding an advantage would give Forest the edge against a Yeovil side that, while defensively strong, has struggled to achieve big victories this season.

‘Yeovil won 2-0 last Saturday, against Gillingham, but I don’t think they have won by more than two goals this season,’ said Calderwood.

‘We have to think of that, we know we can win away from home and a continuation of our home form would get us to Wembley.

‘But the important one is tonight, having an advantage going into next weekend would lift the roof here.’

And, having monitored his players in training this week, Calderwood believes they are perfectly prepared for the challenge.

‘The last couple of days you have been able to see the appetite and enthusiasm,’ he said.

‘They have been focused in training, particularly on Wednesday when it was a fairly boring session, as we looked at how we would play against different formations.

‘They were very switched on to that, very focused.

‘I can see the players building themselves to a crescendo in time.’
