Colin Calderwood was unsurprisingly delighted with the smash and grab raid at Prenton Park yesterday, after the Reds nicked the points in the 2-0 win.

Speaking to the official site, he said. ‘We were second best in too many areas for the first 15 minutes and were struggling to compete. But against the run of play we sneaked away and scored and that gave us a lift. It was nice to get the second and we controlled the game much better. We defended well and were comfortable in the end.’

He singled out defender Wes Morgan for special praise, but went on to say. ‘It was tenacity that won the game. They showed a lot of team spirit and aggression.’

The win all but sees us safely to the playoffs and just about kills off Tranmere’s hopes of getting there. But little time will be spent worrying about them, as the push for promotion goes on. Next up it’s relegated Luton at home, when we will once and for all know if we are still in with a shout of automatic.
