But he warned today that they must still be focused on producing their best form – as they attempt to make amends for last season’s humiliation at Huish Park.

The 3-0 defeat last October was one of the low points of Gary Megson’s tenure as he allowed two fans to deliver the post-match team talk and explain the supporters’ frustration.

And Calderwood admits there has been talk among players about settling the score.

‘The players have been talking about it in the dressing room. It is one of those fixtures that they have all been looking forward to,’ said Calderwood.

‘Because of what happened, it should keep us concentrated on the job. The players are certainly desperate to rectify what happened and that will heighten our desire to get the win, to get a good result.

‘But we have to play with our heads as much as possible.

‘Yeovil are in good form – in fact the reports I have had on them say they are the best team the chief scout has seen this season. They are also the only team who have beaten Port Vale.’

Calderwood says Forest must build on their performance against Chesterfield.

‘I don’t know how important that result was. When you look at it in black and white on Sunday, it was a great result,’ he said.

‘But we saw how the game progressed and it was not a four-nothing game, particularly in the first half.

‘We showed predatory skills, to say the least, particularly to be 2-0 up in the first half, given the way the game went.

‘At the end of it, the players’ ability shone out to make the most of those chances, with Neil Harris’s goal in particular being a great finish. But you have to keep improving. If you rest on your laurels then you can expect a slap in the chops.

‘We have to be content with how things are at the moment, but we also have to work hard to improve.’

Calderwood has a tough decision to make over Sammy Clingan who has returned from international duty with Northern Ireland, although he will not be picking Kris Commons, despite the fact he is back in training.

‘Kris is not ready, it would be putting him at too much risk of picking up another injury,’ said Calderwood. ‘There is a chance of him picking up a calf strain or a hamstring.

‘He has still been out for more than five weeks, although he will benefit from the fitness work he put in over the summer, because his fitness level was very good at the start of the season.

‘He was very happy with it and so were we. His fat levels and fitness were very, very good.

‘That will stand him in good stead, because he will not have so much to catch up now that he has returned to full training.

‘Sammy needs some time to recover perhaps. He has had an emotional week, with a disappointing home defeat and then a remarkable win over Spain.’

John Curtis is expected to be fit following a slight twinge in his hamstring last weekend.
