Colin Calderwood believes he has the perfect replacement for the injured midfielder Sammy Clingan, in youngster Lewis McGugan.

The 19 year old came on as a 12th minute substitute as Clingan was stretchered off with a broken ankle. McGugan had an impressive game and made an immediate impact after scoring a superb goal having only been on the pitch for 5 minutes.

The Red’s boss has every faith in the new kid on the block and said the youngster deserved his chance. Speaking to the NEP Calderwood said, ‘He is making an impression. He was good on the ball, but also made strong, aggressive challenges. He can play in the team.

‘That type of performance puts him forward. It was a game to remember and must have been enjoyable to for him play in.

‘The need for new players is lessened to a degree because of the way Lewis played; lessened to quite a large degree, in fact.’
