Calderwood – It’s Just Another Game

The last time a Forest manager uttered the words ‘it’s just another game,’ it cost him his job. That was the case for former manager Joe Kinnear ahead of a crunch game with arch rivals the Sheep a few years ago, but this time it’s CC in an entirely different context.

Calderwood was speaking to the official site ahead of the game and said. ‘It won’t be as special as the first time I went there. Northampton will always be the first club I managed and I’ll always have really good memories about the place. But I’m not anticipating the fixture with any more relish because it’s Northampton – its just another game we’re looking to win as we try to move closer to our target. Whether it’s a local derby or you’re up against your best friend, you want to go there and win and take the three points.’

He’s in for a frosty reception from both sets of fans tonight. The Cobblers faithful have not forgiven him for leaving them to come to the City Ground and the travelling Forest fans have all but lost faith in him to get us promotion. Anything less than a win tonight at Sixfields will mean the gloves are off as far as the Reds supporters are concerned and Monday’s game against Brighton at the City Ground will be a cauldron for the manager.

Forest will be up against it tonight as well, because the Cobblers have not lost a home game since November. They are flying at the moment and sit just two points off the playoffs. Calderwood will no doubt play it cautious as usual and opt for his 5 at the back in an effort to stifle the home side, but a win is what he needs. One to maybe save his job and two, because he is the only one that believes we can still claim an automatic spot. Defeat tonight should see an end to both.
