Calderwood: I Want More

Nottingham Forest’s 5-1 defeat of Huddersfield was the most emphatic victory under manager Colin Calderwood – but the demanding boss felt his side could have produced more.

‘This might scrape into the top five best performances since I have been here,’ he said. ‘It was not the best I have seen. Periods of it were OK, but there were periods of it where, if we were a really good team, if we were really professional, we would have shown our ability better than we did.

‘There were lots of pleasing things about the day but obviously the win was very important for us.

‘It was nice to go and play like that, to be so clinical at home.

‘They had lots of possession in the first half, but that was because we were two, three and then four up.

‘We were better in the second half with our organisation and we should have scored again.

‘But I don’t want to be too hard. There was a lot of tiredness towards the end, a few of them were feeling their hamstrings. It was the first full 90 minutes for Kris Commons since he came back from injury, Lewis played the vast majority of the game and it was a big occasion for him.’

Calderwood says Forest must now fight to hold on to their place in the automatic promotion places.

‘I said that if we win our two home games, anything would be possible,’ he said.

‘It is a good time to go on a run, because we could really light the fire with the fans and beat two of our closest rivals, in Doncaster and Scunthorpe. To me, that is important, that the run coincides with playing those two teams and then we have Bristol City before the end of the season.

‘The month of March, it may not totally decide anything, but it could give us the same kind of gap that Scunthorpe find themselves with.

‘They have gone and done it. Any other team that can do similarly now, will give themselves a fantastic chance, it will give them a gap.

‘Now we are second we want to stay there. We have got to make it hard for Bristol City to catch us, we have got to win games.

‘They have a game in hand, but if we win and they don’t we will stay above them.’

Junior Agogo had a key role in Forest’s victory, netting twice to take his tally to five goals in three matches.

‘Four of those have been when he has been clean through on the keeper, one-on-one,’ said Calderwood.

‘The timing of his runs has been good and he has shown good composure to finish the chances.

‘You really fancied him with the one in the second half, so that is nice.

‘He knows what I think of him – but he knows there is an improvement to come in him as well.

‘He is a confident boy, he thinks he has got rhythm and he thinks he can dance.

‘Nathan Tyson will face a fight to get back into the team, if I am honest. But he knows he is part of a good group and that is more important to me than whether he is in the starting 11 or not.’
