Calderwood Has Faith In Kids

Colin Calderwood today said his Nottingham Forest squad is strong enough to win promotion.



And he predicted some of the younger players will have a key role in their campaign.

The Reds boss has cut the number of players at the City Ground by seven in the past few months – nine have left, with only David Prutton and Luke Chambers (pictured) arriving.

Even though Nicky Southall, Ross Gardner, Neil Harris, Danny Cullip, Gino Padula, James Beaumont and John-Paul Pittman have left, and Nicky Eaden and John Thompson are on loan, Calderwood says Forest are stronger for it.

And he expects his younger players to develop and force their way into first team reckoning on a more regular basis.

Spencer Weir-Daley (Lincoln) and Felix Bastians (Halifax) are also out on loan, but still have a bright future at the club.

‘We have a tight group now. There is experience, with Breckin, Curtis, Gary Holt. We have goalscorers who have had a barren spell but who are ready to explode. We have enough strength in depth.

‘There were various reasons for people leaving, but at the end of the day, I have to prove that it has been the right decision.

‘Because we are smaller and tighter and every player is virtually guaranteed to be involved at the weekend, that will make the intensity and concentration good.

‘But we also have the opportunity, if there are injuries or loans, to use the emergency loan situation. I have to take responsibility and I will prove the squad is good enough to take us up.’
