Colin Calderwood today said he was happy with the progress Forest have made in there three pre season games to date.

Jack Lester scored both goals as Forest beat Rushden 2-0 in a friendly on Monday night, following up Friday’s 5-0 victory over Ilkeston Town.

Calderwood told Forest’s website: ‘The progression in the games, particularly in terms of fitness, has been excellent – and our attitude has been good too.

‘We could have chased a lot of lost causes but kept our structure well.’

Calderwood was impressed by Rushden, who were relegated from the Football League last season and are now managed by former Forest boss Paul Hart.

‘It was a good workout,’ he added. ‘Rushden passed the ball well as we knew Paul would get them doing.

‘It is nice to win. It is not vitally important at this stage but the reason we won is that the boys worked their socks off.’

Calderwood also told the NEP
“You always look at attitude and application and they were good. We will get better and we will benefit from this game.”

Asked if individual performance was as important as team displays, with 34 players vying for a first team place, Calderwood said: “It is a little bit. You look at that, but you also have to see connections with one another, in different areas.”

The Forest boss also revealed that his entire squad was put through a strenuous training session yesterday. “If their tongues were hanging out a little bit, it was because we were working hard,” he said.

“The progression has been excellent so far.”

Tomorrow night, Forest face MK Dons away in their third friendly of the summer, with Calderwood set to involve the other half of his squad, with the likes of Nathan Tyson, Ian Breckin, Nicky Southall and Gary Holt set to play.
