Calderwood Enters The Last Chance Saloon

Nottingham Forest fell to their sixth straight away defeat of the season at Loftus Road this afternoon, going down 2-1 to QPR.

For once in this so far sorry season, the Reds’ can have no complaints at yet another fruitless away trip. Forest were undone by woeful defending and a powder puff strike force. No dodgy refereeing decisions today and no hard luck stories. Forest were this time, masters of their own downfall. It was slack marking from two throw ins that did for the lads today and not a series of missed chances at the other end that let us down. You have to say though, that our current selections up front couldn’t hit a barn door, if it had BARN DOOR! written in 20ft high letters.

Before today’s game, many had already made their minds up on the future of CC. After this latest defeat there will be a lot more. Vital Forest gave Calderwood four games to save his sorry ass before this encounter with the Hoops, but this performance and the result could see it whittled down to one. Defeat to Ipswich at home on Tuesday night, will see my patience with the manager finally run out and I suspect many others as well.

The pre match confidence that most fans had today, was swiftly kicked out of them with one look at the team sheet. We had no Earnshaw and no Martin and the inclusions of our equivalent of the Chuckle Bothers, Morgan and Chambers, meant that any pre match confidence would fast disappear.

Calderwood will once again give us the positives from the game, but at present it feels like defending the indefensible when trying to back him. He needs to get a win, any way it comes. But he’s running out of time and the fans are running out of patience. We might need stability, but we need the right man. With 10 games gone we’re 5 points from safety. Anything less than 3 points on Tuesday and he should do the decent thing and go. The last thing this club needs is a return to League 1. Failure to beat Ipswich should be the signal for change.
