Calderwood Doing It His Way.

Colin Calderwood has wasted no time in making changes at the City Ground since his appointment as manager of the Reds.

He has already brought in former Northampton colleagues Dave Watson and David Kerslake, as well as making his first signing with keeper Paul Smith. These are not the only changes that will be seen in the coming weeks on Trent side. As revealed earlier this week Forest will shortly announce the appointment of a Director of Football as well as an overhaul of the scouting system. Nigel Doughty said at the fans forum, that significant changes were to happen with regards to Forest’s scouting methods and had already done away with their Scandinavian scout.

Nigel Doughty said ‘it was the suggestion of the manager that the club appoint a DOF and that the final decision on who this would be would rest with Colin’ Doughty also said that any football related matters would always see the manager have the final word.

Calderwood also said that he was happy with his current squad and that they were confident of achieving promotion this season. He said at the fans forum that by the time the season started Forest would be adept at playing a variety of formations including 3-5-2, or 4-4-2. He also said when questioned that he wanted to play attractive football, but this may not always be possible as you have to adapt to suit different styles.

It was also stated that the club was to send more youngsters out on loan. Paddy Gamble played at Hucknall Town on Thursday ‘to gain 1st team experience.’ It is the best way to improve a players technique and is better than reserve team football. Calderwood said he was impressed with some of the youngsters at Forest and singled out Felix Bastians, James Beaumont and Alan Power.
