Carl Jenkinson was expected to be back in contention of playing for Nottingham Forest after the October international break, but the 27-year-old doesn’t appear close to making a return as he was recently pictured on Instagram wearing a protective boot.

Jenkinson has been out of action with an ankle injury since mid-September and was ruled out for just a few weeks, but the England international may not be returning until November as things stand. If Jenkinson is still wearing the boot, he’s unable to put full pressure on the ankle.

It could be weeks until he’s back out on the pitch, but the defender might struggle for playing time in his preferred role due to the form of Matty Cash.  At right-back, Cash has shone for Forest this season. He initially filled a void in the absence of Tendayi Darikwa & Jenkinson, but his impressive performances mean he’s unlikely to be dropped by Lamouchi.

With the Reds second in the Championship and boasting the second-best defensive record after 11 games, Cash is proving far too valuable to be removed. Jenkinson may have to be patient when he does fully recover.
