Billy v The Board – I’m Backing Billy

One of the main reasons I was personally against the appointment of Billy Davies as the successor to Colin Calderwood, was his supposed ability to fall out with people. But, that’s only what we’ve read in the papers, as well as being the opinion of a fair few disgruntled Mutton Molestors down the A52.

Davies knew the magnitude of the job he took on 6 weeks ago and that it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park, in terms of keeping NFFC in the Championship this season. He has admitted himself that he carried out his own reconnaissance of the club before he took charge, so it won’t be any surprise to him that he’s struggling with the resources that he has.

The one thing that he will be surprised at, is the lack of support he’s been given from the clubs’ CEO Mark Arthur and the rest of the board at the City Ground. For the past week, our second in command, has supposedly been sunning himself on the posh side of the Dominican Republic with his best mate and Chairman of the club, Nigel Doughty. Both were apparently missing from the game on Saturday, the biggest game of the season for fans, when we got royally thumped by our old foes, for the second time in three weeks…..and in our own backyard.

Vital Forest have heard, that two deals to bring in new players fell through last week, partly because of the CEO’s absence and partly because that same CEO pulled the plug. The manager is on a hiding to nothing, if he can’t bring in new blood. He’s also going to be the one taking us back to League 1, with the same squad of players that were failing so spectacularly with the previous manager. Unless of course, he’s allowed to strengthen the squad.

Billy Davies is apparently of the opinion, that NFFC is unmanageable in it’s present form and that he would prefer to be in control of the transfer budget. Reports in todays’ press, suggest that he doesn’t approve of the way that David Pleat and the Acquisitions Team get involved in transfer deals. The lack of signings are stopping Billy Davies from doing his job and the defeat at the weekend was the last straw for him. From what we’ve heard, he threw his toys out of the pram and had a fit after the Derby game. One over the result and the post match scarf waving antics of Robbie Savage and another because the club failed in landing another of his intended targets. We might actually have a man, who cares about this club as much as we do.

Davies is of the firm belief that NFFC is the proverbial sleeping giant and that if he’s allowed to do his job, he will be the one to lead us onto better times. But, he needs the backing of the club to do that. I think it’s about time that someone had the balls to take on this board and started asking the same questions that the fans have for the past 10 years. I’ll be backing him all the way, I hope the club and the rest of the fans do as well. I only hope his balls are big enough. Good luck Billy, I’m with you all the way.
