Billy Says – Billy’s Done Good

When Billy Davies took over from former Forest manager Colin Calderwood in January, he was faced with what many believed would be mission impossible. We were 4th bottom and level on points with Donny, who were at the time keeping the third relegation spot warm for Norwich. Since then we have gone from staring down the barrel of a gun, to firing it at others.

Billy the Scruff, has brought about a remarkable transformation in the clubs’ fortunes and has gone from being public enemy number one, to the Saviour of the human race…in my book at least.

He told the official site. ‘I’ve got to say a big thank you to everyone at the football club – the players, the board, the staff, the auxiliary staff and, most importantly, the fans. It has been a wonderful, wonderful effort from all concerned and we should enjoy what has been an outstanding achievement. To date, it’s Billy Davies’ best achievement.’ Doncha just love the way he speaks in the third person? He’s a character.

Whilst we should keep our feet on the ground, it’s worth remembering the state we were in when he and his bandwagon rolled into to town. Calderwood had done well in stopping the rot and getting us to the Championship, but he was sadly out of his depth in this division….nice man that he was. But Billy is the man to take us on to the next level. The next level being, a recognised and established team in the Championship. We now need to consolidate our position and to do that, he needs to be backed by the hierarchy of the club. We need to spend and unfortunately we need to spend quite big. Therein lies the next challenge for Billy, in persuading Nigel Doughty to part with his cash. It’s going to be a lively and lovely summer.
