Billy Davies – A Remarkable Achievement

Nottingham Forest could secure their position in the Playoffs today, if they beat Cardiff City at the City Ground and Leicester fail to win at home to QPR. Billy Davies, says if it happens, it would rank up there with anything else he has achieved in the game as a manager.

Davies told the official site. ‘It would be a remarkable achievement to get this team into the play-offs. I’ll certainly be popping some Champagne with the staff and the players because it would be a wonderful, wonderful achievement.’

This time last season, we were still heading back to League 1 and nailed on certainties for the drop in many people’s eyes. Although Billy and the team had begun the fightback, not many of us thought it would happen. Since then, Davies has turned us from relegation fodder, into promotion contenders. Third place in the table at his stage of the season, is far better than many of us dreamed.

You sense that Davies is wondering what might have been, if he’d been backed in the transfer market in January. He’s been criticised in some quarters for shooting his mouth off about the failure to bring in new players, but I personally don’t blame him for that. For me, the guy is a breathe of fresh air at the club and long overdue. His outbursts have merely shown what a shambles it is, when trying to bring in new talent.

‘Under the circumstances, what’s been going on, what’s happened this season and when you consider where we’ve come from, it would be a very good achievement.’ I think it’s a bloody miracle Billy! Fair play to you.
