Best Bid Put On Hold

The saga continues and despite numerous media reports yesterday suggesting that a third bid was made for Leon Best, Forest now say they have not made any further contact with the Sky Blues.

When asked about the Best deal Calderwood told the BBC. ‘We’ve left the situation alone this weekend. It hasn’t progressed any further, that’s all we can say. I think there will be activity between now and the end of the transfer window and a certain amount of posturing from clubs,’

He probably means Coventry when talking of ‘posturing’ and it does look as though they are playing hard ball on this one. The Sky Blues don’t seem to be in much of a position though to call the shots, as at present they are under a transfer embargo. Because they can’t bring anyone in as a replacement, it’s unlikely they will let Best go until they can. It looks as though this will rumble on a lot longer, we just have to hope that if Best is the man the club want that City get this embargo sorted before the end of January.

If the chatter on the message boards last night is anything to go by, then the deal the Sky Blues did with Southampton has a lot to do with this. They apparently still owe the Saints for his signature and the clauses inserted into Best’s contract are proving to be a sticking point. Thanks to NffCuk for that one.
