Hilel Soudani posted an injury update on Twitter and Instagram with the caption ‘back soon’ ahead of Monday’s clash with Derby County. The 31-year-old has been out of action since October with a knee injury and was ruled out for the season after suffering a setback in his recovery.

After joining Forest from Dinamo Zagreb last summer, Soudani made only four Championship appearances before spending two months on the treatment table due to his knee problem. He returned in October and played in two league games before reinjuring himself and being ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

However, his latest update suggests he could be back sooner than anticipated, although it’s unlikely to coincide with Monday’s meeting with Derby. It will be good to see Soudani return, but he’ll have to be eased back slowly as his lack of playing time will mean he’s way short of match fitness.

Since making the summer switch, the Algerian international has made eight appearances in all competitions for the Reds, scoring two goals. He’ll have stiff competition upon his return from Lewis Grabban, Daryl Murphy, Leo Bonatini and Karim Ansarifard, but Soudani will just be happy to be injury-free.
