Chairman and owner Fawaz Al Hasawi has confirmed that he is in talks with two managers with ‘Nottingham links’ over the managerial role at the club.

With caretaker gaffer Paul Williams in charge until the end of the season following the sacking of Dougie Freedman, there has certainly been the speculation you would expect about the vacant position, and Al Hasawi had previously said there would be no rush as the appointment had to be right – but following links with the likes of Nigel Pearson, Nigel Clough, and even Martin O’Neill – most recently Steve Cotterill after that photo – he has now said that two British managers top his shortlist – and both apparently have Nottingham links.

The Nottingham Post have him quoted as saying.

‘There are two managers from England, that we are talking to. One in particular. Many of the other applicants are foreign managers. I think if either of the British managers accept, then the fans will be very happy. The fans will like them. Both of them are proven managers who have taken clubs to the Premier League. They also have a connection with Nottingham. There is a chance that we could make an announcement in the next few weeks, if we can get something agreed. But I do not want to mention any name, in case it does not happen and that will cause upset.’

The mind boggles, especially with the favourite list and the stand out people there that would tick the boxes he’s describing.

‘I do not want to say I am going to bring this man in, I want to say something only when it is done and agreed. I promise the fans will be happy about it. We are hoping for an answer in the next week or two. We hope to have the next manager appointed by the end of the month.’

When pressed further for details on these two men, he went on to add.

‘The names we are thinking of are men people will know. We will also keep our options open when it comes to foreign managers, but we have to be careful with them. If they have a good track record, if they have won promotion or had success, we will look at them, perhaps. But if they have not, we will look at somebody we know about; who has proven that they can take a club out of the Championship. We want to get the right manager for the club. I do have somebody in mind, one manager in particular, but I do not want to say too much about that, because we have not reached an agreement with them. If I mention his name, then the fans might be upset if it does not happen. What I can say is that we want to get the right manager for the club; we want to get this decision right. I want to get the CEO (chief executive) appointment right as well, we want to get the club running in a proper way.’

As for Cotterill though, he ruled him out – in a sense.

‘The other day I saw Steve Cotterill at the game and I had a chat with him. People presume now that he is going to be the next manager. That is not the case. I was just saying hello. We were talking about the team and what his time at Forest was like. But there is plenty of interest.’
