Nottingham Forest confirmed the appointment of Kyriakos Dourekas as their new Director of Football. As per his LinkedIn account, Dourekas’ role with Forest could entail overseeing the transfer policy and targets, monitoring team affairs and managing the stadium and training facilities – roles he undertook with his former club. He may also have his hand in team travel arrangements, fixture selection and will provide expertise in squad selection and day-to-day club functions.

Before joining the Reds, Dourekas spent 25 years at Olympiacos as their Director of Team Operations. He’s worked with stellar coaches such as Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde, recent Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim, former Marseille and Malaga manager Michel, and the current Everton boss Marco Silva. Dourekas also has ‘strong ties’ with top clubs from Spain, Italy, England, France and Argentina.

Aitor Karanka won’t be pleased with the appointment, however, as now he may have to liaise with Dourekas for many management decisions. The Forest boss might need the Director of Football’s input for selecting the squad and won’t have the freedom to line up his own transfer targets. Karanka is about to lose a lot of power at the club due to Dourekas’ appointment, so it will be interesting to see how their relationship pans out this season.
