Aitor Karanka was full of praise for Joao Carvalho, confirming that the Nottingham Forest midfielder has found his feet at the City Ground after joining from Benfica over the summer. The Reds paid around £13.5m for the 21-year-old and haven’t been disappointed from his performances. Carvalho has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Forest, scoring and creating nine goals.

When asked if the Portugal u21 international was finding his feet in English football, Karanka replied to Nottingham Live: “Yes, he is. But I do not want to talk about individual names. Because all of the players have the same importance for the team”. Carvalho has registered the joint-most assists in the Championship this season and is paying off his price tag in the process.

He’s got a good eye for goal, gets himself into dangerous areas in the final third and is adept at dribbling with pace. Carvalho is also a brilliant technician with a fantastic first touch who favours a quick pass-and-move style of play. Forest supporters will enjoy watching him on the ball, and the midfielder’s contributions have helped the Reds go within one place of the playoffs.

Carvalho’s signing was a gamble given his young age and price tag, but he’s been a revelation so far and Karanka will no doubt hope there’s more to come from him.
