With the news that Roy Keane is set to depart his post at the City Ground, fans wondering who is going to take his place.

Whilst not exactly an ‘official’ endorsement, it seems the majority of fans are backing former Forest player Chris Cohen to be the man for the job. It’s easy to see why they’d want him to take Keane’s place.

His performances during his time at The City Ground won him two player of the season awards back in 2009 and 2013, earning him legendary status along the way before having to retire at the end of the 2017-18 season as the result of injuries. He’s been working with the club too on the coaching side of things, having been appointed joint manager of the clubs U23 squad and Academy Technical Coach last summer.

Having been at the club for so long, there’s probably nobody else that knows the club better than him. And seeing as he only retired recently he should have an excellent relationship with the majority of the current squad as well as the U23 players who could make an impact next season.

That’s why these Forest fans took to Twitter to throw their support behind Cohen to be Martin O’Neill’s right-hand man going forward.

  • Never really bought into the Chris Cohen legendary status thing. He had a couple of decent seasons and you’ve got to admire his determination in trying to come back from 3 potentially career ending injuries, but does that make him a legend? He got his reward by getting an extra year contract extension that everybody knew he couldn’t possibly fulfill in terms of playing time. Assuming he was on fairly modest (for the Championship) 10k a week, that’s a tidy little half a million pounds bonus basically for being a likeable lad. Does he now deserve an assistant managers job? I don’t think he does myself, but I do think Roy Keane was a huge mistake and needs to be replaced by someone not so high profile, who will assist without trying to dominate the decisions

  • Chris gave 100% as a player and has been a good servant but to call him a legend devalues the title.

Whilst he may be one for Forests future we need somebody a little more experienced particularly when we will need somebody to step up when O’Neill is sacked in December

  • I don’t get this Mon being sacked at some point this year!!! Give the guy a chance this will be his first full season in charge. He will know who he wants in and who he wants out and with the backing of the chairman he could be the one to take us forward. I have to agree that I think RK was a mistake and a more laid back no 2 who knows his stuff would be better wether CC is that man I’m not sure but whoever is in the dugout at least get behind them.
