The ‘Prince of Nottinghamshire’ as he’s becoming known in his home country Ghana, did his reputation no harm at all in Accra today by grabbing the winner in the quarter final of the ACON tournament.

Whilst his club side Nottingham Forest are making a hash of getting promotion, Junior Agogo is building himself into something of a hero back in Ghana. They will be dancing in the streets of Accra tonight and singing his name into the early hours, thanks to his close range strike from 4 yards with only 8 mins remaining.

Ghana went a goal behind in the game and even had a man sent off. Chelsea’s Michael Essien got the equaliser for the Black Stars, before Agogo sent the host nation wild with the winner.

All this might be great news for Junior, but it means the earliest he’s back in sunny Nottingham will be Feb 11. The final is next Sunday and Ghana will face the winners of the Ivory Coast v Guinea game in the semis.
