It’s clear to me, and no doubt many of you reading this, that we’re looking a little short going forwards at the moment.
Personally, and with the first half of the season and last year in mind, I thought I’d never say that with this team.
Indeed, when you look at the attacking options and our goal record despite all those conceded, it’s up top where we’ve looked strongest.
I guess, though, in bringing in Karanka we were going to sacrifice a bit of attacking flair and that appears to have happened at least to start with.
Certainly, we needed to be tighter at the back and now we are it`s up to the Spaniard to get the balance right – something few of our managers have been able to do recently.
Of course, we’re still capable of beating teams heavily but it strikes me that we need to shake up our centre forward options.
Most of all, I think we need to bring in another proven forward and let Ben Brereton go out on loan.
We all know his talent, but he can go through patches where he doesn’t score.
That can be said for most in his position, of course, but at his age we can still do something to make it less frequent and help him unlock that vast potential that he`s got.
I have no doubt that he’ll be an excellent player for us in the future – we saw what he can do against a side like Arsenal – but maybe just a step down to somewhere where he can play all the time and build confidence would be beneficial at this point.
And then we can bring in more experienced player, because I have my doubts Jason Cummings is a Karanka man.
What do you think? Should Brereton go on loan? Let me know in the poll!
