The Football Insider are reporting that Leeds, Blackburn Rovers and us are the three teams that are pursuing a deal for Peterborough playmaker Marcus Maddison.

The club’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony took to Twitter yesterday to confirm that at least two Championship teams have activated the 24-year-old’s release clause:

The Peterborough Telegraph believe the buyout fee to be “over £1m” but it seems neither club have so far agreed a payment structure that would be acceptable to the Posh.

Maddison had an excellent season in League One last campaign with eight goals and 18 assists in 41 games. He can play as a number 10, wide left or wide on the right.

Considering we broke our transfer record for a new attacking midfielder in Joao Carvalho, as well as recruiting a host of wingers in Goncalves, Dias and Soudani, it’s hard to see where the Peterborough man would fit in.

Creativity was certainly a huge problem in the back end of last season but with the summer additions, I think we have more than strengthened in those positions. Our focus should be on other areas of the pitch including a new striker. What do you think? Should we be in for Maddison? Let me know in the poll.
