With yesterday’s news that former player and dare I say it, legend, Martin O’Neill was our Board’s top choice to replace Aitor Karanka as Nottingham Forest manager, it certainly caused a stir amongst the fanbase.
O’Neill’s managerial achievements in his career are well known, but in terms of a curve, arguably you can say his time has gone with a string of failed appointments now and a less than great time in charge of the Republic of Ireland national team.
O’Neill does seem to get players to run through brick walls though and with many worrying that our promotion push ended with Karanka’s departure, there is a sense in O’Neill being the one to galvanise everyone again – even if it’s only for the short term.
Whether we hear anything concrete today remains to be seen, but talks were said to be at an advanced stage and would include Roy Keane and social media was quite interesting.
Martin O’Neill wasn’t my first choice of coach but it is what it is so let’s get behind him! COYR! pic.twitter.com/km9tARa9KM

"Modern methods"? You're one of these young FIFA/Football Manager experts, right? Management is about psychology and personal interaction. O'Neill has proven his one of the best at that.

At a football club where very little has ever made any sense in twenty odd years it seems right to listen to the heart on this one. And it’s beating a little faster at the thought of Martin O’Neill in the home dugout, I can’t deny.
Welcome home to the ‘Irishman’. pic.twitter.com/4ya0RqbV6l

We all have every right to be underwhelmed with Martin O'Neill. But we don't have any right to bring that into the stadium when he starts off. Everyone comes to #nffc with a clean slate and deserves the unequivocal backing of the fans right from the start. Come MON you reds.

I for one will be backing Martin O’Neill, you’ll all be laughing merrily when he’s lifting that Play-off final plate thanks to a bullet header from our Daryl. Martin O’Neill take forest up for me. Please. #nffc

At least under Martin O'Neill we won't see an inept gutless performance like Saturday u redddsss

Martin O'Neill could actually be quite successful at Forest, so long as he doesn't bring former Forest player Keane with him. I think they could make play offs even with the fierce competion in the Championship this season. And do even better next season.

Leave your baggage at the door, take your shoes off, and step into Martin O’Neill’s house of redemption… Whatever you think you think, you don’t know how it’s going to go. And none of it’s as bad as Fawaz. #nffc pic.twitter.com/hdN4BoRQnI
