Nottingham Forest have been relentless in the transfer market, and their pursuit of more signings seems poised to continue. Aitor Karanka has identified players to enhance the quality of every section of his squad, and Forest have been linked with a move for their former striker Britt Assombalonga. Despite selling the 25-year-old at the start of last season, he has allegedly fallen out with Tony Pulis, and he could be available for purchase. Should Forest make a move for their former star?
As the Northern Echo reports, Britt Assombalonga has allegedly fallen out with the Middlesbrough manager, Tony Pulis, and the 25-year-old is the subject of interest from Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City. It’s reported that the experienced centre-forward could be available this summer.
When looking at last season’s Championship table, Nottingham Forest’s need for greater attacking threat is obvious. The Reds only managed to amass 51 goals in 46 league games, and unsurprisingly, Aitor Karanka’s transfer business has focused heavily on trying to augment his side’s attacking options. The likes of Soudani, Dias and Carvalho are prime examples of the emphasis placed on talented, exciting attackers.
With this in mind, perhaps the arrival of Britt Assombolonga would be somewhat obsolete, especially after the news has emerged that Forest have agreed on a fee with Bournemouth for the services of Lewis Grabban. This isn’t to insinuate that Assombolonga is a weak player, the 25-year-old is exceedingly talented, and he flaunts a tremendous record of 108 goals in 238 club appearances.
But, one must consider that Middlesbrough will be expecting to break even on their £14M investment in the striker. Forest have already signed several attacking players, it would be foolish to invest such a substantial fee on a player that they do not need. Presently, Aitor Karanka has sufficient attacking options to mount a serious promotion charge.
