Sam Byram was at the City Ground yesterday hoping to seal a permanent move to the club, according to the Nottingham Post journalist Paul Taylor.

In a web chat today, the reporter explained the situation. It seems that although a deal wasn’t agreed before the 5 pm deadline, the 24-year-old remained to talk with club officials for several hours.

It looks like the player is keen to make the move but West Ham are holding up the transfer. The Hammers don’t want a straight loan as they want the fullback off the books permanently. He is not in Manuel Pellegrini’s first team plans and is deemed surplus to requirements.

That means any deal agreed before August 31st will be a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. We are likely still in negotiations about what fee we will have to pay for the right back next summer.

Still, it is good to hear that Byram is ready to go ahead with the switch so hopefully, we can tie up this deal very shortly.
