The Sun are reporting that West Ham right-back Sam Byram is “joining” the club on a season-long loan deal.

After last night’s draw against West Brom, Aitor Karanka revealed that a deal for a defender was “close,” barring any last minute hiccups. He was quoted by the Nottingham Post as saying:

“It is just the right-back that is close at the moment, but the market can throw up things quickly. On the last day, anything can happen.”

The manager has already confirmed that the 24-year-old was on a list of potential recruits to strengthen the right-hand side of defence.

If we are looking to seal a loan deal, the Thursday transfer deadline is not important. EFL clubs can sign players on loan up until August 31st so we may need to wait until after tomorrow for this to be finalised.

Byram made just 13 appearances in all competitions last season for West Ham. He suffered two long-term injuries, missing three months with a thigh strain between October and January. He then sustained an ankle injury that kept him out for the final two months of last season.
