24 Hours To Go

Garath McLeary from Conference side Bromley remains the only signing the Reds have made. Unproven, unheard of and probably unready, he’s hardly the answer to the clubs’ striker problems.

No doubt we have irons in the fire and deals waiting to be signed and sealed, but Forest are taking brinkmanship and the game of hardball to a whole new level. If the club fall short in getting in adequate replacements again as they did last January, then fans will be calling for the heads of those in charge at the City Ground. And who could blame them, after they gambled and failed last year?

Leon Best remains the favourite to sign, but it’s a long way from being a done deal and who’s to say that Dowie won’t pull the plug on it? He needs a replacement for Best before he let’s him go and will have to look sharp himself in signing someone. Former City player Gary McSheffrey is rumoured to be in line for a return, so that makes the Best deal look all the more possible, but we must be wary of Dowie’s mood in all this as we have peed him off in the way we’ve gone about poaching his man.

Barry Robson looks to be one we’re serious about, with rumours of a million plus bid sitting on the table for the Dundee Utd captain. The midfielder has expressed a desire to play for Celtic and who can blame him? So again, that deal is far from completion.

Fryatt, Hoskins, Imrie and Dargo amongst others, were all banded around as potential targets, but who we sign if at all, remains a mystery at this stage. We could end up being pipped at the post in any or all of these deals and the club will have some serious and uncomfortable questions to answer if it does. Of course we could pull a rabbit outta the hat with Billy Sharp, but at this late stage and with our performances in the past in January, don’t hold your breathe. We can at least all look forward to tomorrow night, when we can finally get some sleep and put another frustrating transfer window to bed.
