To prolong the club’s transfer activity, Aitor Karanka’s side announced the loan signing of Gil Dias from Monaco. Despite his age, the attacking midfielder is endowed with valuable experience; he represented Fiorentina last season.  His arrival further reinforces Forest’s aspirations of being promoted to the Premier League.

As the Forest club website confirmed this week, Gil Dias has joined the club on a season-long loan deal from AS Monaco. The 21-year-old has attained the experience of playing in some of the most competitive divisions in world football, and his promise and ability could be of exceeding benefit to Aitor Karanka’s side.

One of Dias’ primary attributes is his adaptability. His favoured position is out on the right flank, but the Portuguese sensation displays the confidence and competence to operate in any attacking position.

In 27 appearances for Fiorentina last season, Dias contributed towards four Serie A goals – scoring two and registering two assists.  While his goal contribution does require improvement, 18 of his 27 league appearances were as a substitute which limited his capacity to impact the game purposefully. With greater regularity and consistency, it’s likely that Dias will be able to score more frequently.

Also, it’s worth considering that Championship defences aren’t of corresponding quality to teams in Italy’s premier division, which will allow Dias the freedom to exhibit his attacking attributes. The 21-year-old is regarded as an extremely proficient dribbler, and he’s shown that he has a tremendous ability to play through balls.

Additionally, he is willing to pressurise opposing defender and press when required. He is a very expressive player, who is technically sound. With consistent first-team involvement and the knowledge that Karanka possesses, one can envisage that Dias will be a significant player for Forest this season.
